The Algoma Forest Local Citizens' Committee (LCC) is looking for an individual who could represent the environment sector on the Algoma Forest. The Algoma Forest includes all Crown land in an area from the Montreal River south to St. Joe's Island and from Lake Superior east to Highway 129.
The Minister of Natural Resources, by the authority of the Crown Forest Sustainability Act (CFSA), has established Local Citizens' Committees for each forest in Ontario to advise the local District Manager on matters pertaining to the preparation and implementation of the forest management plan which is prepared by the Sustainable Forest Licence holder.
The membership of the LCC includes local citizens representing a range and balance of interests. Members are appointed by the local District Manager drawing from nominations from groups and associations and individual applications for unrepresented sectors.
The main interests represented on the LCC include tourism, forest industry, woodworkers union, anglers and hunters, naturalists, independent loggers, trappers, prospectors, environment, First Nations, motorized and non-motorized users of Crown land, educators, Chamber of Commerce and the general public.
The purpose of the LCC is to participate as an integral part of the forest management planning process and the implementation of the approved plan. This committee plays a major role in participating in evaluating issues and conflict resolution.
The Algoma Forest LCC was established to represent the these interests on the Sustainable Forest Licence held by Clergue Forest Management Inc. out of Sault Ste. Marie. To learn more about the Algoma Forest LCC you can contact the MNR District Office at 949-1231 extension 220. |
